Aline Foriel-Destezet: the musical philanthropist

Homepage Aline Foriel-Destezet: the musical philanthropist

I love nothing more than lending my support to music and artists, giving them the means to make their dreams come true, helping them to surpass themselves…

Aline Foriel-Destezet

Her support for the Royal Opera and the Royal Chapel, along with many other cultural institutions and artists on the continent, is of the highest order. But she is less forthcoming when asked to explain her reasons for this support, as if such commitment were only natural to her and that to talk about it would be to steal the limelight from the “true heroes” – all those who contribute to the performances. That said, given that our focus here is not directly on her, but on those who set her heart racing, Aline Foriel-Destezet finally opens up to us…

First, there is the venue, a truly prestigious one at that. Then, there is the music and the baroque era, which has fascinated her almost all her life. Versailles and Aline Foriel-Destezet were made for each other… and they found each other!

Take the Royal Chapel, a sumptuous place steeped in history. Whenever I step inside, I think of Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and their children, the last monarchs of such glorious lineage to be present in this space with a crown on their heads, and I am moved to be in such close contact with history – our history. Italian blood also flows in my French veins, but this does not prevent me from feeling that national connection that binds me, and binds us all, to Versailles.

This is a connection to be nurtured and never taken for granted, which is why Aline Foriel-Destezet, through her strong commitment to the musical season of the Royal Opera, advocates for a venue that is open, that welcomes all audiences, a Royal Opera and a Royal Chapel in which everyone can feel they belong, a place not the sole preserve of the elite.

Versailles belongs to the Republic! However, France’s culture is in trouble, I feel there is a real danger, and in order to overcome this, nothing could be more important than sharing the great masterpieces of music with people of all social backgrounds.

As for the choice of performances and other initiatives that she decides to support more specifically, Aline Foriel-Destezet is guided by one thing only: her heart.

I need to enjoy the productions with which I associate myself, and not just in terms of the music and performance. I must feel transported by the orchestra, I must subscribe to the approach and energy of the conductor. This is why I decided to be the patron of l’Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal, to help it evolve, to help put it on the map of the leading ensembles, beyond the walls of the Royal Opera. “I love nothing more than lending my support to music and artists, giving them the means to make their dreams come true, helping them to surpass themselves…”

Aline Foriel-Destezet

To conclude, she confesses:

I love Requiems, their music transports me.

Indeed, you couldn’t dream of a more beautiful place than the Royal Chapel to hear them resonate.
