Presentation
“I lost my father, my mother, and some very close friends during the year 2023. These circumstances have stirred in me a deep and distant desire to choreograph the feelings associated with the loss of those we hold dear. […] I wanted to explore all these emotions that we experience in mourning. It is not only sadness or annihilation. There is also memory, the trace that the loved one leaves living on in us. […] From the wound, which will certainly never heal, can emerge a form of joy, that of reviving the memory of the person we have lost. Death can thus add relief and an additional depth to life. I would like to attempt to capture this wonderful sensation of the miracle of existence. A celebration of life, in a way.”
Angelin Preljocaj.
Between sadness, rage, and moments of joy, French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj makes a stop at the Royal Opera to present his new creation, more intimate than ever. Following the emotion of Snow White and the transcendence of the Triptyque (Annonciation, Torpeur, Noces) last season, the Ballet Preljocaj returns to the Versailles stage with a performance built on “contrasting musical texture”, with classical and rock music and sound creation.
Produced by Ballet Preljocaj.
Co-produced by La Villette – Paris, Chaillot – Théâtre National de la danse, Festival Montpellier Danse 2024, Grand Théâtre de Provence, Vichy Culture-Opéra de Vichy.
Le Ballet Preljocaj/Centre Chorégraphique National is subsidised by the Ministry of Culture and Communication – DRAC PACA, Région Sud -Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropole and the City of Aix-en-Provence.
