Presentation

In the pantheon of musical works, Mozart’s Requiem holds a prominent place: magnificent, moving, thunderous, it captivates the listener; unfinished, composed at the time of the genius Mozart’s death, and completed by his students to be delivered to his mysterious commissioner, it is laden with mystery and the drama of its conception. Yet, it is undeniably a masterpiece, and this is how it should be approached above all. Hervé Niquet has gathered the most sensitive soloists for this exceptional music, accompanied by a contrasting work: Antonio Salieri’s Requiem, composed in 1804 by this famous master of the Imperial Chapel of Vienna since 1788. Known throughout Europe for the success of his operas, Salieri abandoned his operatic career to focus on sacred music, producing a flagship piece, the Requiem, of which he was undoubtedly aware of Mozart’s version. So, for both the concert and the recording, here is a wonderful opportunity to compare two works separated by a decade, and by the myth surrounding Mozart’s death…
