In 1732, Handel, who had just triumphed in Poro and would soon be tackling the composition of Orlando, staged Sosarme, re di Media (the capital of the kingdom of the Medes was Ecbatana, in present-day Iran), a brilliant work in which the star castrato Senesino and the soprano Anna-Maria Strada del Pò (Handel’s muse – he wrote Alcina for her) gave splendid lyrical performances.

Marco Angioloni, a singer and conductor whose affinity with Handel has already produced a unanimously acclaimed Poro at Versailles, invites us to rediscover this magnificent work (starring no less than three countertenors.)
