Presentation
1735 : the Neapolitan Porpora had been in London for two years, where he had come to break Handel’s monopoly on Italian opera. Is he about to succeed ? His fifth work for Opera of the Nobility is Polifemo, with the dazzling castrati Farinelli and Senesino (the latter having deserted Handel’s Royal Academy!). Bringing together the heroic characters of Ulysses, Polifemo, Calypso, Acis and Galatea, Porpora’s opera was a resounding success. Here, it is brought to the stage with the virtuoso performances of Franco Fagioli as Primo Uomo, Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian as Secondo Uomo and Julia Lezhneva as Prima Donna: against the backdrop of a roaring Etna, the cyclops Polifemo (José Coca Loza) awaits connoisseurs of brilliance from the depths of his cave, if Calypso (Éléonore Pancrazi) allows you to enter… !

This program will be recorded on a CD and DVD to be released on the Château de Versailles Spectacles label.
The performances on December 4th and 6th will be recorded by Camera Lucida.
The painted backdrops were created with the assistance of students from the École d’Art Mural de Versailles, as part of a partnership agreement with Château de Versailles Spectacles.
The costumes were crafted by the Atelier Caraco in Paris.
