The Baroque Dance Academy and its history…
Faithful to the cultural history of the Château de Versailles, baroque dance, which originated within its walls, holds a significant place in the ongoing artistic programme of Château de Versailles Spectacles.
In 2019, Château de Versailles Spectacles launched the Baroque Dance Academy for the first time, in collaboration with choreographer Marie-Geneviève Massé and her dance company, l’Eventail. In 2022, they teamed up with choreographer Pierre-François Dollé to establish a new Baroque Dance Academy.
Pierre-François Dollé offers a group of around twenty dancers the opportunity to learn the core principles of baroque dance, helping to deepen and enrich their individual choreographic style. The most talented dancers are selected to join the Ballet of the Royal Opera and participate in two performance tours : The King’s Tour and The Royal Serenade of the Hall of Mirrors. These artists also perform at the Fêtes Galantes, in select productions within the Royal Opera’s musical season, and at associated cultural events (Tous à l’Opéra, Opéra Partagé, European Heritage Days, etc.).
The Baroque Dance Academy of the Royal Opera at the Château de Versailles is a project led by Royal Opera Productions and Château de Versailles Spectacles.
