Presentation

With Dido and Aeneas, Purcell tells of the love and loss of two legendary lovers. Aeneas, fleeing Troy, reaches Carthage, where he falls in love with Queen Dido. But witches and spirits put an end to their brief romance, prompting Aeneas to set sail again to found Rome. Abandoned, Dido dies of grief in an unforgettable lament. The majestic Sonya Yoncheva plays this emblematic role of seduction and spite, in Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek’s dizzying, fantastical staging that features mime, dance and acrobatics amid magical set design. Brilliant young soloists from the Academy of the Opéra Royal dive joyfully into this marvellous performance !

Royal Opera Production / Château de Versailles Spectacles.
Reconstruction of the show created at the Opéra de Rouen Normandie in 2014.
The performances on Saturday October 19th will be filmed by Wahoo for a DVD and our Live Opera Versailles platform.
