Since 2015, Château de Versailles Spectacles has had the privilege of presenting the programme of the Musical Season, held at the Royal Opera of the Château de Versailles. The Musical Season aims to offer a lyrical stage par excellence by making music from the 17th and 18th century central to its programme. It also strives to make this music accessible by offering performances suitable for young spectators and newcomers, to enable everyone to discover the wonders of the Royal Opera of the Château de Versailles.
With such a prestigious setting, attending a performance here is a unique and memorable experience, allowing audiences to discover masterpieces of music in one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MUSICAL SEASONS
Among the highlights of past seasons are sumptuous productions such as Charpentier’s David and Jonathas, Grétry’s La Caravane du Caire, Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Lully’s Armide, Beethoven’s La Pastorale, Monteverdi’s The Coronation of Poppaea and Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne.
These seasons continue to stand out for excellence of the artists, with unforgettable performances by Sonya Yoncheva, Bryn Terfel, Jakub Józef Orliński, Samuel Mariño, Bruno de Sá and many more. Memorable stage projects, such as the famous Mozart-Da Ponte Trilogy directed by Marc Minkowski and Ivan Alexandre, or Angelin Preljocaj’s famous “Swan Lake”, have enchanted spectators.
The 2021–2022 season paid tribute to the giant of French theatre, Molière, to mark the 400th anniversary of his birth. Despite the challenges posed by the situation, no less than 107 performances were given, making for an exceptional range of concerts, operas and ballets.
