The new 2026–2027 season of the Royal Opera at the Palace of Versailles is unveiled

A musical odyssey featuring over 100 performances !

Among the highlights of the programme are no fewer than 12 staged operas, including six new productions alongside a selection of outstanding revivals.

The season opens with a new production of Tarare by Salieri, set to a libretto by Beaumarchais, a work that was a true triumph at its premiere, yet is unjustly overlooked today. Other new productions include a rediscovery of Le Cadi dupé by Gluck, paired with Pygmalion by Rameau. Audiences will also encounter the most famous Queen of the Nile in Giulio Cesare in Egitto by Handel and Marc-Antoine et Cléopâtre by Hasse. Enjoy the most mischievous of Figaros in The Barber of Seville by Rossini, performed in French. Finally, celebrate in style with Le Carnaval de Venise by Campra and immerse yourself in The Coronation of Poppea by Monteverdi.

Do not miss the revival of several sumptuous productions : the vibrant La Caravane du Caire by Grétry; Romeo and Juliet by Zingarelli—Napoleon’s favourite opera, depicting Verona’s legendary star-crossed lovers; the iconic Don Giovanni by Mozart; and the spirited, patriotic La Fille du régiment by Donizetti. This musical journey is brought to life by the virtuosity of its performers and the timeless splendour of its setting.

With a strong commitment to nurturing new talent, the Royal Opera highlights the next generation of artists through the Royal Opera Academy, notably in its gala Molière and Lully: the comédies-ballets, as well as by showcasing rising stars of the musical scene. Established artists and emerging talents share the stage, including conductors Camille Delaforge, Chloé de Guillebon, Théotime Langlois de Swarte, Valentin Tournet, Emmanuel Resche-Caserta, Gaétan Jarry, Victor Jacob, William Christie, Leonardo García-Alarcón, Hervé Niquet, Andrés Gabetta, Sébastien Daucé, Stefan Plewniak, Vincent Dumestre, John Eliot Gardiner and Raphaël Pichon.

They are joined by singers such as Nadine Sierra, Sonya Yoncheva, Vannina Santoni, Juliette Mey, Sarah Charles, Catherine Trottmann, Amandine Sanchez, Gwendoline Blondeel, Éléonore Pancrazi, Héloïse Mas, Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian, Jakub Józef Orliński, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Nicolò Balducci, Anas Séguin, Franco Fagioli, Jean-Gabriel Saint-Martin, Patrick Kabongo and Théo Imart, among many others.

A true architectural jewel, the Royal Chapel hosts a wide range of concerts throughout the season, including the Grands Motets of Rameau and Mondonville, Mozart’s Mass in C minor and Requiem, and Lalande’s Te Deum, marking the 300th anniversary of his death. Two traditional sacred themes at Versailles are also featured: “Christmas at the Royal Chapel” and “Holy Week at the Royal Chapel”, bringing together works such as Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and St Matthew Passion, Handel’s Messiah, and Scarlatti’s Oratorio per la Passione di Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo.

A central pillar of the season, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera performs in 30 productions and more than 50 performances at its home venue, often alongside the Choir of the Royal Opera, in addition to touring across France and internationally, helping to extend the reach of the Royal Opera at Versailles. Highlights include a programme dedicated to the Guadeloupean composer Chevalier de Saint-Georges, as well as a symphonic cycle celebrating Beethoven on the bicentenary of his death, featuring his unforgettable works, including the Pastoral Symphony and the Ninth.

Let yourself be carried away by the beauty of music with the new season of the Royal Opera at the Château de Versailles, an unmissable occasion for emotion and discovery.
