The brilliant Mendelssohn embarked on a great work in homage to Beethoven’s 9th Symphony: the Symphony with soloists and choir “Hymn of Praise,” premiered at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig to celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press. A romantic sonic cathedral dedicated to God and reason, brought to incandescence by Raphaël Pichon.
