Presentation
In the space of a decade, Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva has become the queen of the world’s most renowned stages. With her velvety voice, brazen treble, flawless articulation and imperial breath, her stage presence makes her a major incarnation of the repertoire’s heroines, where she is as brilliant in the Baroque as in the Classical and Romantic. For this recital with the Orchestre de l’Opéra Royal de Versailles, the diva returns to her Handelian love affair: in 2011 she sang Cleopatra in Julius Caesar on the Opéra Royal stage. Here she is in a Handel program, an anthology of dramatic arias in which her sumptuous voice works wonders, under Stefan Plewniak’s twirling, complicit direction. Baroque-glamour concert guaranteed!
