Presentation
At the end of the world, on the mythical island of Ogyiga, as Neptune unleashes a storm, Calypso attempts to seduce and handsome young castaway named Telemachus. Will the son of Ulysses respond to the nymph’s dangerous charms? Will he resist the wrath of Adrasta ?
After Semiramide, Les Ombres continue to explore the fascinating work of the musketeer musician André-Cardinal Destouches.
Show moreIn Telemachus and Calypso, we discover Destouches’ unique dramatic effect and a constant focus on the “vivacity of flow” and natural declamation. The work also echoes his commitment to Louis XIV, then nearing the end of his life, with a great monumental chaconne with couplets and choruses of nearly four hundred bars, in tribute to the tradition passed down by Lully.
Co-production by the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, Centre culturel de rencontre d’Ambronay and Ensemble Les Ombres as part of the cross-residency scheme set up by the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles.
