Presentation
The Ballet of the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples was founded at the same time as the famous opera, in 1737. Today it is recognised as one of the most outstanding in Italy, and its international reputation is founded on more than a century of touring the world.
The ballet’s new director since 2021, Clotilde Vayer, a former dancer and then Maître de Ballet at the Paris Opera, has breathed new life into this ensemble of magnificent dancers.
Jerome Robbins, who was one of the stars of the dance world for four decades, notably as director of the New York City Ballet, and who is known to the general public for his famous choreography of West Side Story to the music of Bernstein, introduced classical dance to audiences coming from Broadway, where he triumphed.
The Teatro San Carlo pays tribute to this immense choreographer, taking ballet on a journey of poetry and virtuosity to the splendid music of Chopin’s Nocturnes , Ravel’s Concerto in G major and Debussy’s Prelude To The Afternoon Of A Faun.
