Presentation

Plague take all misers and all miserly ways !

With all due respect to Molière, this Miser is generous, never once skimping on its invigorating delights. Yet frugality is everywhere: in the painted canvas set, in the pared-back staging, in the sober acting. Nothing stands in the way of the text, dulling its shine or diluting its brilliance. The actors thrill us, tackling the words with utter brio. Jérôme Deschamps as the pot-bellied Harpagon jealously guarding his gold is jubilant and luminous, as are Macha Makeïeff’s splendid costumes, filling our coffers with joy.

Premièred on 6 October 2022 at the Théâtre National Populaire de Villeurbanne.

Produced by: Compagnie Jérôme Deschamps.

Molière / Lully – Le Bourgeois gentilhomme

N°53

When the first notes of the new comédie-ballet, Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, the fruit of Lully’s and Molière’s genius, sounded on 14 October 1670, no one could have imagined it would reach such a posterity – four centuries later, the same lightness, vigour and ingenuity still make us laugh!
