Presentation
Mozart and Saint-George: two musical stars of classical Europe, two incredible stories in the time of Marie-Antoinette!
Mozart will be remembered for his fascination with the Court of France and his successes in Paris. Yet when it comes to Le Chevalier de Saint George, born in Guadeloupe 1745, all else remains to be discovered. A man of mixed race, born to a Black mother and White colonist father, a brilliant fencer destined for a military career who became Advisor to the King and Controller Ordinary of Wars, he quickly emerged as a virtuoso violinist and a key figure of Parisian life. Having joined the service of the Duke of Orléans, he gave private lessons to the Queen. Directing the greatest orchestras in the capital, his works were performed to considerable success, before siding with the Revolution as Colonel of the Legion of Americans! His music is as astonishing as his personality is extraordinary: here, Théotime Langlois de Swarte embarks on a discover of Saint George and compares him with Mozart. Prepare for a battle of the Titans!
