Emiliano Gonzalez Toro’s 2024–2025 season will undoubtedly be one of the richest and most varied of his entire career. He will sing the role of Ruggiero in Caccini’s La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina in Ambronay, Lausanne, Toulouse and Versailles. At the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, he will perform the role of Ramón Fernandez in Voyage d’automne (a new work by Bruno Mantovani with a libretto by Dorian Astor), as well as the Misa Criolla (in a duet with Ramón Vargas). He will then take on the title role in Mozart’s Idomeneo on tour in Madrid, Barcelona, Freiburg, Antwerp and Hamburg, under the direction of René Jacobs.

The season will continue with the release of Monteverdi’s Vespers on the Gemelli Factory label in spring 2025, accompanied by numerous concerts at some of Europe’s most prestigious venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival and the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville.

A Swiss tenor, conductor, producer and director of the Froville Festival, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro began his career over twenty-five years ago under the direction of Michel Corboz and Gabriel Garrido in Geneva and Lausanne. Since then, he has collaborated with conductors such as Raphaël Pichon, Christophe Rousset, René Jacobs, Ottavio Dantone and Andrea Marcon. Renowned for his interpretations of the Evangelist in Bach’s Passions and the title roles in Rameau’s Platée and Dardanus, he is also a recognised specialist in the “baritenor” roles of Vivaldi and Handel (Farnace, Giustino, Ariodante and Bajazet).

He has performed regularly at the Staatsoper in Berlin and Munich, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Opéra national du Rhin, and opera houses in Lausanne, Lille, Amsterdam and Paris. Emiliano is an acclaimed specialist in Monteverdi’s works, having performed the title role in L’Orfeo with Ottavio Dantone and Ryo Terakado; Arnalta in L’incoronazione di Poppea with Emmanuelle Haïm, Christophe Rousset, Ottavio Dantone and Raphaël Pichon; Eurimaco in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria with Emmanuelle Haïm, as well as the title role with Ryo Terakado; and the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin with René Jacobs, Christina Pluhar and Raphaël Pichon.

To share his experience of the Seicento repertoire, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro founded the ensemble I Gemelli with Mathilde Etienne in 2019, launching it with Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, in which Emiliano sang the title role. This was followed by Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and L’incoronazione di Poppea. The ensemble has performed at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, the Arsenal in Metz, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Opéra de Tours, opera houses in Nantes and Bordeaux, and the Ambronay Festival.

The ensemble’s recordings, which have received some of the most prestigious awards, reflect both critical acclaim and popular success.
