Rameau

Homepage Rameau

Jean-Philippe Rameau, a musician by profession, only found success after the age of 50 when he began composing his first operas. From this period, he devoted much of his artistry to tragédie lyrique, a genre typical of 17th and 18th-century France.

In just a few years, he became one of the greatest French composers, and in 1745, he was officially recognized for his musical brilliance by being admitted to the King’s Cabinet.

At 84, he composed his final tragedy, Les Boréades, which was never performed during his lifetime.
