“Performances so special that I feel changed by listening to them” [Gramophone]; “A marvel in every respect” [The Strad]; and “Fascinating” [The New Yorker] – these are typical reactions to violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte, who is rapidly establishing himself as a highly sought-after violin soloist (on both Baroque and modern instruments), chamber musician, recitalist and conductor.

He has appeared with Les Arts Florissants, Le Consort, the Royal Opera Orchestra of Versailles, Holland Baroque, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Les Ombres and the Orchestre National de Lorraine. Théotime Langlois de Swarte studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Michael Hentz and became a regular member of Les Arts Florissants at the invitation of William Christie in 2014, while still a student. Since then, he has performed as a soloist with the ensemble and will perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with them on North American tours in spring and autumn 2025. He has also given recitals with William Christie, notably recording sonatas by Leclair and Senaille (Générations, released by harmonia mundi in 2021).
As co-founder of the Baroque ensemble Le Consort, alongside harpsichordist Justin Taylor, de Swarte can be heard on numerous highly acclaimed recordings, including Specchio Veneziano, Opus 1 and Philarmonica, all released on Alpha Classics. Le Consort has performed throughout Europe, and its first North American tours in the 2023/24 season included Montreal, Boston, Washington, Kansas City, Berkeley, Chicago, St. Paul, Louisville, New Orleans, Vancouver and Ottawa.
In addition to William Christie, de Swarte frequently collaborates in recitals with harpsichordist Justin Taylor and lutenist Thomas Dunford, with whom he recorded the highly acclaimed album The Mad Lover. Another notable recording, A Concert at the Time of Proust, was made using the recently restored Davidoff Stradivarius at the Musée de la Philharmonie de Paris. His most recent recording, Antonio Vivaldi: Concerti per una vita (harmonia mundi), has received widespread acclaim, while early 2025 saw the release of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the work’s publication.
Alongside his instrumental career, de Swarte is emerging as a conductor. In 2023, he conducted performances at the Opéra-Comique of Lully’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme (with Les Musiciens du Louvre, at the invitation of Marc Minkowski) and Grétry’s Zémire et Azor (at the invitation of Louis Langrée). In November 2025, he conducted Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride at the Opéra-Comique. In 2026, at the Royal Opera of Versailles, he conducts a project devoted to the Chevalier de Saint-Georges and the revival of Salieri’s Tarare. In 2027, he will conduct Beethoven’s symphonies with the Royal Opera Orchestra of Versailles.
