Cappella Mediterranea continues its exploration of the sacred repertoire with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, composed in Leipzig in 1734. This cycle of six cantatas traces the story of the Nativity, from the birth of Christ to the Adoration of the Magi, alternating recitatives, arias and choruses. Blending narrative, reflection and the collective voice of the choir, the work radiates light, joy and hope.

For this production, Cappella Mediterranea joins forces with the acclaimed Nederlands Kamerkoor. Bringing together two exceptional ensembles, this collaboration celebrates one of the masterpieces of the choral repertoire and forms the centrepiece of a European tour in the run-up to Christmas.
