Presentation
This performance is not part of the Royal Opera’s official musical season and is presented at the initiative of the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
On June 30th 2026, a concert performance of Tamerlano will take place at the Royal Opera of Versailles, presented by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation.
Composed in 1724, the opera is considered one of Handel’s major works. In this new interpretation, the musical concept developed by Kirill Richter combines the baroque foundation with contemporary musical thinking, delicately expanding the original score.
The performance will feature the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan under the baton of Alibek Kabdurakhmanov and the Honored Choral Ensemble of the Republic of Uzbekistan led by Gulnara Malikova. The leading roles will be performed by Zhenisbek Piyazov, Juan Sancho, and Veronica Cangemi.
Following its successful premiere at Musikverein, the project continues its international journey. In France, the opera will be presented for the first time as an independent concert version, focusing on the orchestral, choral, and vocal dramaturgy of the work.
Inspired by the story of Amir Temur, the opera explores themes of power, love, fate, and moral choice, preserving its dramatic intensity and contemporary relevance more than 300 years after its creation.
